Teerão recebeu a Conferência Intenacional sobre Direitos Humanos em 1968.
A conhecida Declaração de Teerão comprometia todos os Estados membros das Nações Unidas a lutarem pela paz e contra o colonialismo e todas as formas de opressão e discriminação baseadas na raça, na crença religiosa e particularmente contra as mulheres.
